The old saying if you are unemployed, we’re in a Recession, if I’m unemployed, we’re in a Depression. This certainly holds true for most people. The Obama White House and the Bureau of Labor Statistics just related that Unemployment has hit 9.7%. You can view this on the previous link for Labor Statistics. Sounds like the National Unemployment Rate went down from 10% to 9.7%. Now, let’s consider the rest of the story.
In Washington D.C. where Government Jobs are rapidly increasing (by spending our Tax Dollars for these Government Jobs), we see an Unemployment rate below 6%. On the other hand, take our most populous state of California we see 12.4% Unemployment. If we consider my area of Southern California we find Unemployment at 14% (some areas of the Nation are approaching 50% Unemployment).
With these alarming figures we have not even considered the Number Unemployed for 27 Weeks & Over who have dropped off the Unemployment Statistics Band Wagon. Even after several extensions their Unemployment has run out and they are not being considered as Unemployed for the purpose of the posted Unemployment Rate.
Now another class of non statistics is the Numbers of those Discouraged from even Looking for a Job, the ones that have looked and waited for a job for six months, some for several years seeing no possibility for a future job. These individuals are also absent from that 9.7% National Unemployment Rate.
If we consider the whole Unemployment picture in its entirety the numbers are quite different. With the foregoing, we have not even mentioned those who are now working part-time, less than 33 hours or those under-employed, forced to take entry level jobs. Considering the bigger picture, it becomes much more alarming with a number closer to 17% to 22% Unemployment for our great Nation.
Unfortunately, we are not producing sustainable jobs that will remedy our Unemployment situation. Instead we are continuing to send jobs Overseas, attempting to create Green Jobs (at a cost this Country can not maintain), using band-aid after band-aid. As long as the Obama Administration spends money we have to print and tax businesses like they are wards of the State, we will not see good sustainable (permanent) jobs created by business owners. Business owners and entrepreneurs know and understand this Administration has no conceptual knowledge of how to create jobs. With such a business, entrepreneurial disconnect and hostile environment for growth and job creation, we will not see new jobs and a factual reduction in Unemployment.
Sadly, as long as Business feels they are demonized, under attack and face uncertainty from Obama and his cronies, they will be extremely reluctant to borrow, expand, grow or hire at the detriment of our Nation’s growing Unemployed.
